Nick & G's sits in a Lilian Rice building on the corner of Paseo Delicias and La Granada. The building went up in the 1920s as the home of the Millar family, one of the earliest families in Rancho Santa Fe. It housed Delicias restaurant for 24 years and was briefly Ponsaty's. Local resident Sandra DiCicco-Bonar of the Grand Restaurant Group opened Nick & G's there in 2017 and named it after her children, Nicolas and Gianina.
This month the corner goes dark. The Rancho Santa Fe Review reported in the Union-Tribune that Nick & G's closes in mid-October for a full renovation and menu refresh, with a new look planned for November. No exact last day or reopening date has been posted, and the restaurant's events page currently shows no upcoming events.
Nick & G's is remodeling after a year in which the Village gained three places to eat within a few doors of it. Once the corner closes, those three cover the Village from 8 a.m. breakfast to midnight on weekends.
Three Openings in Under a Year
All three newcomers opened in November 2025 or later. Here is what opened when, and where:
| Spot | Address | Opened | What it serves |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paseo | 6024 Paseo Delicias, Suite C | November 2025 | Modern California cuisine centered on seafood and local produce, plus a sushi and omakase bar |
| Rancho Sandwich and Creamery | 6110 El Tordo | Soft opening in late June 2026 | Breakfast, sandwiches, wraps, soft-serve including Dole Whip |
| Paseo Pizza & Gelato | 6024 Paseo Delicias, Unit D | September 2026, with a grand opening Sept. 25–26 | Brick-oven pizza, panuozzo, salads, gelato |
The chef leading the Nick & G's redesign has said this out loud. Alex Carballo, the Grand Restaurant Group's chef and partner, told the Rancho Santa Fe Review he is excited by the Village revitalization. He listed Paseo, the new Paseo Pizza & Gelato and Rancho Sandwich and Creamery alongside mainstays Mille Fleurs, Lilian's, the café at The Inn, Thyme in the Ranch, Caffe Positano and Rancho Roasters. "I like the energy when there's more…it gives people a little more variety and a reason to go into Rancho Santa Fe, and we're in the heart of it," he told the Union-Tribune's Rancho Santa Fe Review.
One Owner, Two Doors at 6024 Paseo Delicias
Two of the three newcomers share an owner and a street number. Jennifer Fields took over the former Rancho Santa Fe Bistro on Nov. 1, 2025, and reopened it as Paseo that month. In September 2026 she opened Paseo Pizza & Gelato a few steps away, with grand-opening events Sept. 25–26. Her site calls the two her pair of Village restaurants.
The two keep different hours, and between them they cover most of the week.
- Paseo is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to midnight. The kitchen closes at 9 p.m. on weeknights and 9:45 p.m. on weekends. Paseo is closed Sunday.
- Paseo Pizza & Gelato lists noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday and Tuesday through Saturday, and 12:30 to 9 p.m. on Monday. The Union-Tribune's opening story gave noon to 9 p.m. every day, so check the shop's site for the latest.
Sunday is the day this matters. Paseo is closed and Nick & G's will be under construction, so the pizza shop is the newcomer at 6024 that serves dinner on Sunday. The opening coverage lists signature and build-your-own pies, panuozzo, starters, salads and gelato, plus craft beer made in house.
Breakfast Moved to El Tordo
The 6024 pair handles lunch through late evening. Mornings and early afternoons belong to a separate family business around the corner. Rancho Santa Fe resident Chris Miller and his family own Rancho Sandwich and Creamery at 6110 El Tordo. It soft-opened in the last week of June.
According to its June opening coverage, the menu includes breakfast items, sandwiches and wraps, muffins, bagels, lemonade, iced tea and soft-serve, including Dole Whip. That coverage listed hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Those hours date from opening week, so they may have changed.
Add up the three newcomers' hours and they cover 8 a.m. to midnight on a Friday or Saturday. None of them existed before November 2025.
What the Corner Will Look Like in November
Carballo worked out the design with Rachael Lorraine Harris and Michael Soriano, and he described the inspiration as the Amalfi Coast: brighter and lighter, in shades of yellow, orange and blue with a lot of greenery. The plans the restaurant has shared include:
- A large olive tree in the center of the dining room, surrounded by new custom banquettes and tables.
- A new wine cellar that diners can see through to a lighter bar and lounge, and a view into the kitchen.
- A patio full of plants under a new wave-shaped shade canopy.
- A garden-style back courtyard with more greenery and water features.
The menu is getting smaller. Carballo said some Nick & G's favorites will stay, and the focus will be coastal Italian-Americana: handmade pasta, seafood and the best local produce. He plans to spend the closure working on wine pairings, hiring and training staff. He is no stranger to the area. He was the opening chef at The Crosby Club, and the Review counts him among a close group of local chefs that includes Johnny Freyberg at The Crosby and Patrick Ponsaty at The Inn.
The restaurant says it will post updates before the reopening at nickandgs.com and on its Instagram.
